Taiwan, EU Aim for 5G Business Opportunities in 2020

Taiwan's MOEA (Ministry of Economic Affairs) held EU-Taiwan 5G Workshop on June 3 to discuss the future development of 5G technology between Taiwan and the European Union by 2020, reported China Times. Officials from the European Commission Directorate General for Communications Networks, Content & Technology (DG Connect), and representatives from the industry such as Ericsson, Nokia, Foxconn, and Mediatek were invited to participate in the workshop. According to ITRI (Industrial Technology Research Institute), Taiwan's major research force of 5G technology, Taiwan has proposed six possible directions for the cooperation, including research on millietric wave, ultra dense network, mobile edge computing, IoT (Internet of Things), IoV (Internet of Vehicles) and virtualization platform. As Taiwan has accumulated considerable ICT hardware and software strength and has devoted to innovative applications, Taiwan is an ideal partner for developing 5G technology with the EU, said MOEA.
